Y2K Cam

Privacy Policy

Last updated 3 November 2026 · covers the iPhone and Android apps

Short version: Y2K Cam does not collect, store or share any personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your photos are processed on your phone and never leave it unless you share them yourself.

This policy covers Y2K Cam for iPhone (App Store) and for Android (Google Play). Where the two differ, it says so.

Camera

The app uses your camera only while it is open, to show the viewfinder, take photos and record videos. Frames are processed on the device; they are only recorded when you press record in video mode, and are never uploaded or analysed.

Microphone

In video mode the app asks for the microphone to record sound with your clip. Sound goes only into the video file on your phone. Photo users are never asked.

Notifications

If you turn on Develop later, the app schedules a notification on your phone for 9:00 the next morning. It is created on the device; no server is involved. On Android 13 and later the app asks for notification permission first.

Photos

Y2K Cam saves the photos and videos you take to your library. It cannot see or read the photos already in your library. On iPhone it asks for permission to add photos only. On Android 10 and later no permission is needed to save; on Android 8 and 9 the system storage permission is required to save to the gallery.

When you use Import, you pick a photo or video with the system photo picker (Apple’s on iPhone, Android’s on Android); the app only receives the item you choose. The original is never changed — the result is saved as a new photo or video.

The app keeps its own copy of the photos you take (the Roll) inside the app’s private storage on your phone, so you can make dumps and re-shoot a photo through another camera. For that it also keeps a clean copy of each new photo, without location or other metadata. Deleting a frame deletes its copies; deleting the app deletes the Roll.

Location

Y2K Cam never asks for your location. Photos taken in the app contain no location. For imported photos, any location stored in the original is removed unless you turn on “Keep location in imported photos” in Settings.

Purchases

The one-time purchase is handled by Apple through the App Store on iPhone, and by Google through Google Play on Android. We do not receive your name, Apple ID, Google account or payment details; the app only checks with Apple or Google whether the purchase is active on your device.

Data stored on your device

Your settings (date stamp format, camera date, the trial shots used) are saved on your phone only. We run no server and sync nothing.

On Android, if you have turned on Android’s own backup, the system may include the app’s settings and Roll in your device backup to your Google account, as it does for other apps. That backup is managed by Google under your account; we cannot access it.

Network

The only network connections the app makes are to the store’s own services: Apple’s App Store on iPhone; Google Play on Android, for the purchase and for Google Play’s in-app rating prompt. There are no analytics, advertising or other third-party SDKs.

Children

The app collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
